We Found It, We Think.

Yesterday was a long day. We spent another day searching for our place. We found a couple apartments that were possibilities, but after an exhausting four day search, we settled on the first one that we looked at on the very first day. It was very nice and we liked it right away. Actually, I loved it right away and Amanda liked it but it didn’t have a balcony. She really wants a balcony. So we wanted to look at a few more to see if we could find something she could call home. Well, after looking at 15 apartments, Amanda came to love the first place. We asked the realtor to take us to look at it again, just to confirm that it is the One, and we made an offer on it. After leaving the office we get a call from a different realtor, one we had visited 2 days before. She had another place for us to look at. We decided to go look at it while our offer was being considered. What could it hurt? This place too was really nice. We both liked it a lot. It even had a balcony. So we decided to make her a preliminary offer, just to see what we could get it for. While haggling with her, we got a call from the first realtor telling us that we couldn’t have the place. She said the owners now wanted to live in it themselves. We were stunned. Boy, are we glad we looked at that other apartment. If we had waited for the first realtor, we would have had to start looking again tomorrow. Even Rockports have their limit! So we stepped up over negotiations with realtor number two. She gave us pretty good terms but we wanted to discuss it and get back to her. Amanda texted her last night and let her know that we want it. So we found it, we think, a place to call our own. Hopefully this owner won’t do the old bait and switch ploy on us too.

An interesting feature of this apartment is the restroom. It seems to be common for the toilet and the shower to be in close proximity. Of course you have already seen the infamous restroom from “30 lbs in One Day”. Well, in this one, the shower is right next to a regular toilet. Our friends told us that that is good. They once looked at an apartment’s restroom that had the shower head over the toilet. You had to sit on the toilet to shower. Now talk about multi-tasking! So I guess we will be thankful that there is some separation.

It is 1 am as I am writing this. My nemesis jet lag has struck again. Amanda is basically over her jet lag but mine is lingering, and there is only so much Wikipedia can do. I feel like Bill Murray in Ground Hog Day. I have all this extra time; maybe I will spend it learning to play piano. I would prefer to learn to make an ice sculpture with a chainsaw (who wouldn’t?) but it is not cold enough and we don’t have any snow. Now if I can only talk Amanda into letting me get a piano… - Frank

  1. Congrats on the new home and double congrats on the "great bathroom"! Hope it works out! I'm sure Amanda is ready to get a new set of pots and pans (and a wok of course) and get to work cooking in your new home. I'm sensing some homemade ji-foot soup in your future! lol
-You may need some old oil for that! Neyo mayo? (no clue if that is spelled anywhere near correct, but you get my drift =)

Let us know how the piano playing goes! :)

  3. Yeay! a place to hang your hat, or is it leave your shoes outside? So happy you got your apt and toilet to boot! Never thought that would be such a perk, Wow! You have to share what Amanda's first homemade meal is. Inquiring minds want to know.
Frank I'm sure the jet lag will be gone soon. I think right now your brain is overloaded with all the new experiences. Your like a kid in a candy store hopped up on all the goodies (sights, sounds, smells of your new surroundings), or maybe not.
When do you start working? That will knock you out for the night.

  4. So glad to hear your are about to settle in for awhile. It will be nice to not live out of a suitcase. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know I was thinking about you. By the way, I am going to get that chicken recipe (from last post) & try it on Russ. Think he'll eat it?!! Have fun in your new home. Love ya, Sara
