Is There an Echo in Here?

We had our yard sale Saturday and it never ceases to amaze me the lengths that people will go to get a bargain. We began putting our stuff outside for the sale at 5:00 am, while it was still dark. Now, let’s not be confused on this point. I don’t mean that the sun was not fully up, or that it was a little hard to see. I mean it was DARK!!! It was, we had the porch light on and we were still bumping into things, dark. Despite that, in their quest to get a good deal, we had people pulling up to the house in said darkness. One elderly woman stumbled up to a table and realized that it is too dark to see. She was clearly a veteran of the yard sale because, undeterred, she goes back to her car and returns with a flashlight. Once she was properly armed, she meticulously goes over our wares like Sherlock Holmes looking for a clue. The game was afoot!

The rest of the day was pretty busy. Our advertising must have worked because we had a steady flow of traffic up until around two o’clock. We also had a host of friends and co-workers who stopped by the day before for the early-bird specials. We were able to sell most of our belongings. We even sold our pickup. There is something to be said for people paying you to haul your goods away for you. Overall, we have to call the yard sale a success. We would not have been able to pull it off without the help of Jennifer, Rayna, the Smith family, Sharon, Mike and Kelly, my sister Rachel, Dan and Chase and Boo Mcgoo. They all deserve special thanks.

I remember seven years ago, before we moved in, how our voices echoed through an empty house as we were viewing it for the first time. Now, our house is empty again and as we walk around our house, there are echoes once more. This time the echoes are of memories of all of the wonderful times we have had with family and friends. Even though we will soon no longer have a house, we will carry our home with us wherever we go with the echoes of these memories in our minds. - Frank
